In his book "Can't Hurt Me", David Goggin's shares his incredible life story, tips to overcome any obstacle in our pursuit in unlocking one's true potential, and challenges that are used to engage the reader in their own personal journey toward greatness.
One of my favorite themes of his book was the idea of "becoming uncommon amongst the uncommon." This concept can be applied in the relentless effort to be better, even when you consider yourself one of the best. As a new self image to drive your motivation to never settle for anything in life, even when it seems difficult to push yourself to do more. To be the person who finds the positive in a negative situation. To become a leader of a room full of leaders. To not only participate in a sport or art, but to push yourself to be the best you can be at your given craft. To be a great of greats: physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually. To stand out as a teammate, coworker, family member, friend, lover. What ever your goals may be or who you want to become, I encourage you (as Goggins does in his book) to strive to be uncommon amongst the uncommon.
This is one of the many great messages that Goggin's shares in this valuable read. A book that I would highly recommend to anyone interested in a story of resilience that includes applicable ways to build similar resilience to your journey.
"Torch the complacency you feel gathering around you, your coworkers, and teammates in that rare air. Continue to put obstacles in front of yourself, because that's where you'll find the friction that will help you grow even stronger. Before you know it, you will stand alone."
